Itinerary: Oman Empty Quarter Overnight Safari

Day 1

Lost City of Ubar and Empty Quarter dunes camping

The journey begins with a drive from Salalah toward the legendary Lost City of Ubar, a key stop during any Empty Quarter overnight route. Ruins rise quietly from the sand, and your guide shares the stories and theories surrounding this ancient trading hub, often linked to the frankincense routes of southern Oman.

From Ubar, the track opens into the vast Rub al Khali overnight landscape. This stretch defines the Overnight desert safari, where dunes roll in wide arcs and distance loses scale. The color of the sand deepens as the sun lowers, shaping the mood of a true Desert safari overnight.

As evening approaches, camels move across the horizon near the Empty Quarter night camp. You arrive at a traditional setup prepared for Empty Quarter camping, where tents rest directly on the sand. Dinner is served under the open sky, marking the heart of this Oman desert night experience before you settle in for rest at the Salalah desert camp.

Meals included: Dinner

Wadi Dawkah, camel farm, and return to Salalah

Morning begins early in the Empty Quarter experience, with soft light spreading across the dunes. After breakfast, the camp is packed and the drive continues north toward Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO-listed frankincense reserve central to Oman’s heritage.

Walking among the ancient trees adds depth to the Oman overnight safari, connecting desert space with history. The air carries a dry, resinous scent that defines this stop along the Salalah desert overnight route.

The final visit is a traditional camel farm, completing the circle of Oman desert camping culture before returning to Salalah. This closing leg balances nature and daily life, ending the Desert camping Salalah journey smoothly.
